A succession of challenges

n the route of the future Dippach-Gare bypass, our teams concreted the walls of the cut-and-cover tunnel. A more technical operation than it might seem...

In Dippach-Gare, Félix Giorgetti has been working on the construction of a bypass since mid-2023. This major mobility project will remove the level crossing that paralyzes road traffic in the town center on a daily basis, improve mobility on this busy thoroughfare, and make it safer for pedestrians and cyclists alike.

The 2.2 km route is punctuated by a number of structures, including a cut-and-cover tunnel for which our teams used a fascinating methodology.

« Mole-like » earthworks

Starting with the “mole” earthwork.

Instead of clearing the material and concreting, we did the opposite.

"We first installed the piles to stabilize the structure, then built the upper slab,” explains Lucas Alonzi, site manager. Then we dug eight meters underneath, the equivalent of 20,000 m3 of earth, to be able to concret the invert.

Careful preparation

Another challenge, and not the least, was concreting the walls.

As the walls are underground, the operation is more complex. “We use a 12 m long and wide, 7.10 m high formwork truck. This enabled us to form the full-height walls in a single 10 m pass. Reservations on each side of the upper slab facilitated access for the concrete pumps. This stage required a great deal of preparation, particularly in terms of layout, since the concrete (approx. 2,200 m3) is die-cast with a wooden plank pattern. We therefore had to guarantee impeccable aesthetics.

Meanwhile, the rest of the project continues to take shape in the landscape.

Time for soft mobility

On the Reckange side, our teams have installed the metal structure of the footbridge for soft mobility that will link the two parts of the municipality. Now it's time for the reinforcement and concreting work, and the installation of networks under the road.

See you at the end of 2025 to see this new complex come to life!
