Time to (re)build the CFL headquarters

A new headquarters for CFL in the heart of the capital
The renovation of CFL's headquarters at Place de la Gare, in the heart of Luxembourg City, has been one challenge after another. After a major earthmoving phase and delicate demolition work, it is now time to (re)build.
For several weeks now, our structural work teams have been busy concreting, and the first floors are beginning to take shape. More than 64,500 m3 will be used to construct this new 24,000 m3 building.
The next major stage promises to be just as spectacular: the installation of the steel framework for the extension to the headquarters located between the existing building and the railway tracks. With a very special feature: a 3.5 metre overhang above platform 1. As this configuration is very limited and the footprint particularly small, it was necessary to have a mixed metal and concrete structure in order to optimise the surface area while guaranteeing the solidity of the structure.
To limit the impact on rail traffic, this major operation will be carried out entirely at night. It will take around sixty nights to install this extraordinary metal structure, which will weigh a total of 759 tonnes.
