More specifically, the works involve the complete runway rehabilitation to turn it into a state-of-the-art infrastructure, including the installation of a rainwater drainage network and a signalling system. The runway lighting is being replaced by the latest LED-based system in order to save energy and reduce the airport&rsquo;s CO2 emissions.
This project requires exemplary logistics since most of the work is carried out at night, when there is no air traffic. Up to 300 people work on the site at the same time and up to 300 tonnes of asphalt are laid every night. Everything accesses and leaves the site through a single point, namely the new E121 checkpoint, where all equipment, materials and machinery can be inspected. As expected, access is subject to extremely strict conditions.
As a result, every night shift needs to be perfectly orchestrated and every minute counts, since, come 6 am, the workers must clear the site before they leave so that the aircraft can use the runway.

This is a large-scale project taking place from 2021 to 2023 on Findel Airport apron: the complete rehabilitation of the airport&rsquo;s only runway. With a length of 4,000&nbsp;metres and a width of 60&nbsp;metres, the runway is renovated in sections and only at night, from 11&nbsp;pm to 6&nbsp;am, so as not to disturb airport operations.
This project is scheduled over two years, as the work can only be carried out from April to September because of the local climate. Commissioned by lux-Airport, the project is being carried out by Somo Findel Airport, a consortium of construction companies made up of F&eacute;lix Giorgetti, Karp-Kneip Constructions and JCD Airports.

In 2021, Findel’s only runway gets a makeover. A large-scale project scheduled over two years because most construction work may only take place at night.

For lot 29-31, the teams stabilised the 370m2 of facade and pinned the two adjoining gables over an area of 880m2. The existing buildings were demolished and 28 tie rods installed under the facade to be retained.
The project consists of two underground levels and seven above-ground levels. It includes 2,300m2 of offices and 876m2 of retail space. The structural work began in late September 2021 and is scheduled for completion by the third quarter of 2022.
With regard to lot 49-51, the 198m2 of facade were stabilised, as was the adjacent roof, and an adjoining gable of approximately 225m2 was pinned. For this project, which stretches from Avenue de la Gare to Rue du fort Neipperg, the earthworks proved more complex than anticipated, as our teams had to dig through very hard category 7 rock. It took a 100-tonne excavator ripper, a rock breaker, a disc saw and a milling saw to clear the 18,000 tons of excavated materials to be removed.
<h3>Work in restricted spaces, a real challenge for logistics</h3>
This work is a real challenge for our teams who have to work in very restricted spaces and demonstrate exemplary capabilities in terms of logistics, as many factors make their progress more complicated: road and pedestrian traffic which cannot be interrupted, access to the site, the use of heavy-duty machinery, shift work scheduling, relations with local residents and noise pollution, among other things. Some work, such as casting concrete slabs, is carried out at night to make sure teams can proceed without blocking street traffic.

This is a very technical project at 29-31 and 49-51 Avenue de la Gare in Luxembourg City. Two locations where F&eacute;lix Giorgetti demolished existing buildings to make room for a new mixed-use structure. There was one constraint, however: the historic facades had to be preserved and restored. A mission that was carried out in collaboration with the architect of the National Sites and Monuments Service. This major demolition phase required securing all the neighbouring homes.

Findel Airport

As part of the rehabilitation work on the Findel runway, a large number of external employees and vehicles, as well as a large volume of materials, have to pass through the highly secure airport site. Indeed, up to 300 people may be working on the site every night and 3,000 tons of asphalt be delivered. In order to be able to inspect everything, lux-Airport commissioned F&eacute;lix Giorgetti, in a consortium with Karp-Kneip Constructions, to build a new checkpoint.
The new building is designed to check people working on the site, materials and vehicles as they enter or leave the site. It includes four security gates, three for incoming vehicles and one for outgoing ones. A permanent timber building was erected between the security portals where employees of external contractors are checked and where a registration office issues them with daily badges.
There is also a conveyor belt to check personal items and a security gate. The checkpoint also includes a building where goods are checked using a very large X-ray machine, big enough to process whole pallets.
Once the renovation works are complete, the checkpoint will be used for other works that will be carried out on the taxiways (aircraft routes between the taxiway and the tarmac).

Félix Giorgetti, in a consortium with Karp-Kneip Constructions, built for lux-Airport a new checkpoint as part of the rehabilitation work on the Findel runway.

A lot of work was carried out before reaching this stage. This included:
<ul>
<li>The excavation of a huge pit used to site-cast the elements;</li>
<li>Building soldier pile walls to shore up the site-casting pit;</li>
<li>The construction of a 1,300m2 guide slab with a very rigorous flatness, less than 3mm of play, which was necessary to push the elements forward;</li>
<li>Casting the slab and the walls of the prefabricated frames;</li>
<li>Building the formwork for the slab of the frames, using a shoring tower for the whole process;</li>
<li>Concreting the slab of the prefabricated frames;</li>
<li>Waterproofing the slabs;</li>
<li>Site-casting concrete thrust blocks so that the two frames could be jacked.</li>
</ul>
<h3>Race against time</h3>
An actual race against time began from the moment the overhead lines were deactivated. 36 hours during which our teams relayed each other continuously in three shifts. 12,000m3 of earth were excavated in order to open the way for the frames before preparing the guide slab and starting to thrust the frames using jacks.
This delicate operation took place in two stages. It began by thrusting the first element: raised by about 5cm and already in line, it reached its final location. The second frame was first pushed laterally so that it would be positioned along the right axis and then thrust forward until it was next to the first frame.
Once this stage was completed, it was necessary to backfill all around the tunnel in order to recreate the embankment and proceed with laying the tracks and signals for CFL.
The project also involved building a stormwater tank next to the new tunnel. Due to the lack of space, the structure was built at the foot of the CFL tracks using considerable shoring and a 14m deep pit.

This project involves building a second tunnel to connect the Gl&uuml;ck roundabout to Rue des Scillas, south of the Luxembourg capital. Rangwee II is composed of two 2,500-ton frames, each 30m long, 13m wide and 7m high.
The structures were built side by side, at the foot of the embankment supporting the CFL railway tracks.
Each element was positioned in just two weeks using the box jacking process. The operation required blocking the CFL tracks and setting up continuous work in three shifts.

As a result of the development of the multimodal hub in Howald and the redevelopment of Rue des Scillas, traffic into Luxembourg will increase at the Glück roundabout. Félix Giorgetti built a second tunnel alongside the Rangwee tunnel.

Ban de Gasperich Park

Located along Boulevard Kockelscheuer and opposite the National Fire and Rescue Centre (CNIS), the park will include numerous facilities: a playground for children, sports facilities (multi-sport, beach volleyball and petanque courts, fitness trail), a refreshment bar, a 7,000m2 artificial pond, various facilities for walkers (pergolas, bleachers, footbridges to walk around the pond). The project also provides for the ecological restoration of the Drosbach stream over a substantial length of 810 metres in order to reduce the risk of flooding.
Consequently, trees have been felled to make way for the new facilities, and new sewage and rainwater networks have been installed.
The park will be accessed by seven entrances, linked by a network of branching paths covering a total distance of 4 km. A large, fully paved main loop of 1,850m will be available for pedestrians and cyclists, supplemented by 2.2km of crushed gravel paths. A raised walkway on stilts (630m) will be deployed along the Drossbach stream. Some paths will be built using large trapeze-shaped slabs to create a circle. More than 300 slabs in total, prefabricated by Contern.

The Gasperich Park project is part of the development of the new Ban de Gasperich district. Covering an area of 16.6ha, it is the largest park and the green lung of the Luxembourg capital.

With its 120m length and 90m width, the work consists of a mixed structure, in metal and concrete, on 6 levels including one in the basement for a total capacity of 2,000 places. Its facade will be adorned with expanded metal cassettes.
As the schedule being tight and the project multifaceted, important coordination work was necessary to deliver the project on time.
Our teams opted for a drawer construction. Thus the carpentry work was able to begin on one part while on the other the main work was still in progress.
An organisation made possible by the installation of two Skyliners Liebherr cranes on rails.

At the entrance to the capital, in the Cloche d'Or district, the P+R takes place on boulevard Kockelscheuer, next to the new national stadium.
This project is part of the ongoing work at the Cloche d'Or exchange hub and will allow users to park their cars and take the tram, bus or even bycycle via a V&eacute;l'oh station. The aim is to reduce traffic within the capital.
The car park will also be accessible via two underground passages, for pedestrians to get to the stadium and its multifunctional square and for cars from the Kockelscheuer.

CFL commissioned F&eacute;lix Giorgetti to carry out the modernization of its Maintenance and Storage Centre and the construction of a new seven-track harness.
To this end F&eacute;lix Giorgetti called upon its expertise in civil and technical engineering in order to do the following: platform work, the reinforcement of the Albert Bousser tunnel (which leads to the Bonnevoie bypass), foundations of the catenaries, an inspection pit, the relocation of existing networks and installation of a new sanitation system.
Our teams are also involved in the electrical supply of small driving forces, electrical equipment, the grounding network for site equipment, wastewater pumping installation and the compressed air distribution network.

Luxembourg - Train station

Felix Giorgetti has been working on this major project to increase CFL&rsquo;s storage and maintenance capacity since early 2020. It has involved work on platforms and networks, using special techniques, at the CFL Maintenance and Storage Centre between the B&uuml;chler bridge and the Rangwee tunnel.&nbsp;&nbsp;
In order to better manage the increasing numbers of people travelling daily to Luxembourg City due to the growing number of cross-border workers, CFL launched a project to expand the central station in 2018. Two new platforms and four additional tracks were to be constructed, bringing the total number of tracks to 14.

As for the construction itself, the main building as well as the offices are composed of a metallic frame with floors in collaborative steel tanks, the external elevations are in reinforced concrete poured on site and in premurs in the interior. For the offices, the concrete slab is smoothed and left rough.
The seven-storey, 40m high hotel is made of prefabricated sandwich panels measuring 8.10 x 3.05m and weighing up to 12 tons for the heaviest. These are concrete walls that include both insulation and finishing. These structural elements save a lot of time.
<h3>The spiral ramp, a real technical challenge</h3>
This is the most spectacular element of the project: the spiral ramp. &nbsp;With a diameter of 25.5m and a height of 37.5m, the structure is impressive.&nbsp;
The two-way structure serves to distribute the eight parking levels of the park house as well as level -1.
700m&sup3; of concrete were needed to build the 24cm thick reinforced concrete walls. &nbsp;The rounded structure, made of reinforced concrete cast in place, requires special formwork using Sateco CTR formwork to achieve the curvature. It also includes over 57 tons of reinforcement.
Once the elevations were completed, the steel frame was installed, as well as the steel decking, and finally the concrete was poured for the slab to form a ramp with a 6.6% slope. &nbsp;

The scale of the site is such that it has been divided into four zones. In total, up to 85 people, workers and supervisors, work in this huge hive where the complex is gradually emerging from the ground.

Wickrange, a municipality in the southwest of Luxembourg, is located at the crossroads of major roads, slightly outside the capital and a few minutes from the Belgian, French and German borders.
The X-Center is only 2 hours away from major cities such as Strasbourg, Aachen or Brussels and 3 hours away from metropolises such as Paris or Lille.

A strategic place

A few minutes from the capital and close to the borders, on the route des Trois Cantons, that Felix Giorgetti realizes a new mixed activity center, in partnership with Kuhn Construction. A project of more than 90,000m&sup2; gross built on a site of 3.3ha. It is a complex composed of a commercial area and a future housing estate developed and built by F&eacute;lix Giorgetti.
The start was given in January 2020, when the intense and vast task of earthworks began, with some 260,000m&sup3; of excavated material being removed. The excavators and dumpers then gave way to concrete mixers, formwork panels and, above all, 9 Skyliners: six tower cranes, two mobile cranes and one crawler crane.&nbsp;
This new center has been designed as a new pole of attractiveness and brings together many activities:

To ensure the stability of the structure, a waterproof membrane was installed over the entire surface to guarantee constant soil moisture, as well as reverse drainage, a network of drilled pipes fed by the rainwater collection system that will hydrate the soil and prevent the shale from swelling as it dries.

Like the first building, the extension is also built on a floor made of bituminous shale.

Transalliance - Cladding of the first cell of the extension

The 230m long, 100m wide and 13m high building is organized in two cells of 10,000m2 each, with offices, charging rooms (dedicated to electric vehicles) and workshops. The structure consists of a metal frame and cladding for the most part. The administrative part is made of concrete and includes office spaces, a catering area with kitchen and an outdoor terrace of 1,500 m2. In addition, there are 20 docks cast on site.

Findel - Airport

The retention basin is composed of separate compartments. One of 9,500m3 for water run-offs from the apron of aircraft parking areas P1, P7 and P10, and another of 3,500m3 for water used to put out fires. The project also includes the laying of pipes upstream and downstream of the basin as well as replacing the electrical installations at the level of the E20 main access gate.
Part of the work was carried out within the airport&rsquo;s secure enclosure, adding some administrative constraints.
Our teams also worked in collaboration with our Lean department for the construction of the first level walls and to optimise the way of working in terms of both performance speed and safety.

The building is made up of 3,500 tons of steel, including 1,700 tons for the metal structure and 1,800 tons for the concrete reinforcement bars. On the third level, a footbridge will provide direct access to the station. As for the last level, it will be covered with a green roof as well as photovoltaic panels.
The project also involves the complete redevelopment of road access to the car park with the creation of a roundabout instead of the existing ramp, which will make traffic flow more fluid. This component will also include work on underground networks.

F&eacute;lix Giorgetti is carrying out this large-scale project for CFL next to Rodange railway station.
Located where the Luxembourg, Belgium and France borders intersect, this project plays a major role in terms of mobility and is set to considerably facilitate the daily movements of cross-border workers.

Luxembourg National Railway Company (CFL) chose Félix Giorgetti for the construction of a P+R in Rodange, near the station. Started in 2020, the work has progressed well and the structure is already part of the cityscape.

The south underground was already existing and was extended to conect to the park and ride.
For the creation of the central passenger underground, our teams built a 900-ton frame 13.75 m long, 9.20 m wide and 5.65 m high, which was then ripped out from underneath tracks 401 and 402 during a dam in summer 2020.
Passengers will then be able to use the underground that will lead them directly to the 400-space P+R - also designed by F&eacute;lix Giorgetti - located right next to the station. The southern underground has been extended to track 403, which is also included in the specifications.

Mersch is a city in the north of Luxembourg that has experienced significant demographic growth in recent years. This trend will continue with the arrival of new real estate projects, including those of the Rue des Pr&eacute;s and the Rives d'Alzette carried by F&eacute;lix Giorgetti. It is in this context that the CFL has decided to reinforce its services and to launch renovation work at the Mersch station. This major project, which began in mid-2019, has several objectives: to increase the station's reception capacity, to improve passenger safety by bringing the rail facilities into compliance, and to create a new interchange with the construction of a 400-space park and ride facility.
The work program includes

<li>The replacement of the central underground;</li>
<li>The construction of several technical buildings: two technical buildings for users (m'Box for bikes, toilets) and a BMS (Building Management System);</li>

<li>Renewal of all the railway infrastructure.</li>
</ul>
An additional challenge: most of the work had to be carried out with two of the three tracks still in service. Several roadblocks were organized in order to carry out the work requiring an interruption of traffic.

Since May 2019, Felix Giorgetti has been working on the renovation of the Mersch station. Important work to increase the capacity and to bring the railway infrastructure into conformity.
